Position Summary
The job of the aerial lineman is to set up new lines and cables, including fiber and coax, utilizing various construction tools with the ability to accurately read prints. The Aerial Lineman will also be responsible for inspecting any violations of previously installed infrastructure and bringing them up to code as well as training ground hands to be lineman.
Desired Qualifications
· Ability to safely work aloft using climbing hooks, ladders, and bucket lifts
· Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position
· Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
· Basic knowledge of and ability of hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
· Ability to communicate effectively with employees
· Willing and able to work in all weather conditions
· Ability to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck and work aloft and climb poles up to 40 feet
· Able to lift/carry 50 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. as needed with or without assistance
· The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, feeling, crouching, and crawling
Responsibilities for Lineman
· Services may include placing poles, anchors and guys, aerial strand and cable, direct buried pipe, trenching cable, conventional and directional boring, placing underground conduit systems
· All phases of telecommunication construction include but are not limited to: Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipment
· Install and repair aerial telecommunications cable
· Safely use hand tools and equipment such as wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, climbing hooks, and more
· Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks
· Setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers
· This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind
· Travel is required for this position
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Four-year lineman apprenticeship
· CPR and First aid certification
· Commercial driver's license (CDL), preferred
· Excellent analytical and organizational skills
· Able to work under mildly safe and uncomfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, odors, and toxic agents
· Able to pull up loads of up to 100 pounds
· Able to exert heavy physical effort in moderate to heavy work
· Be willing to travel out of area for weeks at a time
· Dependable, flexibility to work weekends and holidays, as needed
· Work independently under minimal supervision
· Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for project build process
